However, police have yet to identify the body or determine an exact cause of death. Police officials told The Express Tribune that they had received information from locals on Thursday evening about the presence of a suspicious gunny bag dumped at a desolate spot in Sector I-11-2. When a police squad examined the bag, they found the body of the young man.
The victim, a police official said, appeared to be around 26-years-of-age and had a clothing drawstring wrapped around his neck – which appeared to have been used to strangle the victim.
Confirming that the young man was apparently murdered and dumped, police officials said that they had shifted the body to the Pims where a post-mortem examination would be carried out to ascertain the cause of death.
“It seems that the deceased worked as a labourer … We are working to identify who he was and locate his family,” a police officer said.
He added that a few hours before they started receiving complaints, a police patrol had passed the exact spot where the body had been dumped but the patrol had found nothing there at the time.
This is the second such body found dumped in the area in as many months. In March, the body of an unidentified man was found dumped at a desolate spot in Sector I-11.
Enhanced patrolling
Meanwhile, SSP-Operations Sajid Kiani has directed all police officials in the city to launch an effective crackdown against proclaimed offenders as well as other criminals involved in crimes of heinous nature and ensure their immediate arrest.
He issued these directions on Thursday in a meeting at the Safe City Centre, a police spokesman said. The SSP directed police officials to launch an aggressive campaign to arrest absconders. Officials were further directed to ensure effective security arrangements in the city as well strict checking at police pickets while conducting strict patrolling.
