Moreover, details of seven expelled students have been provided to police for further legal action. The spokesman said the administration would implement the recommendations of the inquiry committee and disciplinary action would be taken against students involved in the incident in phases.

He said that peaceful environment would be ensured on campus at all cost.

PU officials confirmed that action was taken against students belonging to the Islami Jamiat-e-Talaba (IJT) who were identified through CCTV footage.

When contacted, IJT spokesperson Taimur Khan said action should be taken across the board instead of just against the IJT. “Our members were also injured in the scuffle but no action had been taken against the people we identified [as attackers],” he complained.

He reiterated his call for the administration to refrain from taking a one-sided approach.
