LAHORE: India has always used coercive measures to curb Kashmir liberation movement and now ‘fake elections’ are being held in the valley, said Mushaal Mullick, wife of Kashmiri Freedom Movement leader Yasin Malik.

She was speaking with lawyers at the Lahore High Court Bar Association (LHCBA) on Thursday.

While appreciating the lawyers for their role in judiciary’s independence and restoration of the constitution, Mushaal said the legal eagles have always played an important in every movement in the country against dictatorship or for fundamental rights of the citizens.

She urged the lawyers to play their role for independence of Kashmir. More than 800,000 Indian troops have been deployed in the valley and innocent Kashmiris are being tortured and killed, she said.

“India’s atrocities against Kashmiris are increasing day by day. Kashmiri youth are being tortured and women are being disrespected,” she added.

Mushaal said the role of Indian Prime Minister Narindra Modi was shameful and India under his rule was acting like a terrorist country. “All Hurriyat leaders are under house arrest and doctors are being killed for treating the Kashmiri injured by Indian forces,” she continued.

Requesting the lawyers to play their role in Kashmir independence, she said their role could take this movement to its logical end. “Kashmiri people love Pakistan and they have pinned high hopes with Pakistan in their movement for independence,” she added.

LHCBA President Chaudhry Zulfiqar assured Mushaal that lawyers would always cooperate with Kashmir, which was the jugular vein of Pakistan. “We cannot have sustainable bilateral relations with India until the freedom of Kashmir,” he added.
