Karachi University convocation tomorrow

1,925 students to be awarded degrees at varsity’s 27th convocation on Saturday

KARACHI: Karachi University's (KU's) 27^th annual convocation will be held tomorrow (Saturday), announced the varsity's convener for the press, publication and media coordination committee of the annual convocation, Prof Dr Seemi Naghmana Tahir.

She was addressing a press briefing on Thursday at the dean of KU's faculty of science's council room. "A total of 1,925 students will be conferred their respective degrees at the 27^th convocation of the varsity on Saturday evening," she said, adding that 168 gold medals will also be awarded to students who secured first positions in their respective departments and courses.

The deans of all the faculties, along with the convocation committee members, were present alongside Dr Tahir.



She informed that the former vice-chancellor of KU, Prof Dr Zafar Saeed Saifi, will be awarded a DSc degree while 252 BA (Honours), 18 BE, five BLIS, 126 BS, one BPA, one BCom, seven BSCS, four BBA(Honours), 200 BSc (Honours), 257 MA, 41 MBA, 44 MCom, 13 MCS, three MLIS, 24 MPA, 309 MSc, 71 Pharm-D, one MPharm, one MD, 13 MPhil and 68 PhD degrees will be awarded to students. In addition to this, 465 evening programme degrees will also be awarded to the graduating students.

The convocation will be held at the Valika Cricket Ground and Sindh Governor Muhammad Zubair, who is also the varsity's chancellor, will preside over the occasion. Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has been invited as the chief guest.

If the governor attends, this will be the first time the chancellor has participated in the ceremony in the last five convocations. KU's Pro-Chancellor and Education Minister Jam Mehtab Hussain Dahar will also grace the occasion.



According to Dr Tahir, around 8,000 people are expected to participate in the event and arrangements have been made for the parking of 3,000 vehicles near the venue. A shuttle service will be available from the Silver Jubilee and Maskan gates to facilitate students attending the convocation. All the gates will remain open for entry and exit. Ambulances will be on standby and a medical camp will also be setup outside the venue, said Dr Tahir.
