RAWALPINDI: A trial court on Friday sentenced a man to life in prison for kidnapping a five-year-old boy in Jhelum in March last year.
Special Anti Terrorism Court (ATC) Judge Rana Nisar Ahmed sentenced Imran Hussain for his involvement in the abduction of Sahil Saeed Naqqash, a British national of Pakistani origin. The court also sentenced him to 10 years rigorous imprisonment for dacoity, fined him Rs50,000 and seized all his property.
Naqqash was kidnapped in Jhelum last year by armed men demanding £100,000 as ransom. They also stole cash and jewellery from his grandparents’ house.
Police arrested four suspected kidnappers in March last year. In May 2010, two armed men ambushed a police convoy in Gujrat that was taking the men to court. Hussain was the only suspect to survive the ensuing shootout.
