Multan Literary Festival spreads colours of peace

The participants of the event highlight the importance of literature in building a peaceful society

MULTAN: The first ever Multan Literary Festival was held in Bahahuddin Zakariya University (BZU) Multan under the aegis of Higher Education Commission, Punjab.

The participants of the two-day event called for progress and development of literature particularly in South Punjab. They said Multan also enjoys a special status in the literature of South Punjab.

Highlighting the importance of the event, famous poets, writers and other intellectuals said such festivals were a good step for the promotion of literature and culture to build peaceful society.

They said such events would strengthen the relationship of youth with books. They were of the view that the festival would also sent a clear message to the terrorists that the people of Pakistan would never bow before the evil forces. During the festival, the ancient statues were also put on display at the cultural museum.



Speaking on the occasion, Punjab Higher Education Commission Chairman Dr Nizamuddin said dialogues help promote the process of partnership in social relationship. “Multan Cultural Festival is an effort to find motivation of life, distinct cultural recognition and also to assess social ethics from new fresh beginning,” he said.

He said the festival would promote culture, customs and spiritualism.

In his remarks on the occasion, BZU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Tahir Amin said Multan was the land of saints, love and peace. He said Baba Farid Ganj Shakar, Shah Yusuf Gardaiz, Bahauddin Zakriya Multani, Sadruddin Arif, Shah Rukan Alim, Shah Shams and several other saints belonged to this city. He said the poetry of Khawaja Ghulam Farid was very popular and optimistic even in this modern age. He further said the festival would help develop considerable interest in literature and education to engage youth in the field of knowledge and research.
