Suspended: Order against PEMRA chief set aside
The counsel argued the lower court was not authorised to hear complaints against Pemra

The Lahore High Court on Thursday suspended an order of a Gujranwala sessions court that had directed police to register a case against Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) Chairman Absar Alam. The Pemra chairman had challenged the lower court’s order for being issued on misleading facts. His lawyer, Advocate Amir Saeed Raan, argued the sessions court passed the order on an application of a lawyer on accusations of hurting sentiments of people. The counsel argued the lower court was not authorised to hear complaints against Pemra, which already has a complaint cell to address issues. He asked the court to set aside the impugned order for being illegal. Justice Chaudhry Mushtaq Ahmad heard the arguments and suspended the trial court’s decision while issuing notices to the respondents for April 20.
