Philippines clinic uses Wolverine to sell circumcisions

Just don't let him take too much off the top

In what appears to be a blatant case of unlicensed advertising, a medical clinic in the Philippines is offering circumcisions using an unusual mascot – Marvel Comics superhero Wolverine.

Dionisio M. Cornel Memorial Medical Center in Antipolo, near Manila, is using an image of the star of the X-Men and Wolverine films next to text promoting circumcision services offered at the clinic.

Given that actor Hugh Jackman made his last appearance as the adamantium-clawed mutant earlier this year in the blockbuster hit Logan, it seems that the clinic is milking his iconic image for everything it's worth.

Hugh will always be Wolverine

The procedure, as advertised, costs Philipines Pesos 1,400, which is just under US$28. The ad came to global attention after being tweeted by Joey DeVilla, a self-described tech evangelist based in the US.

DeVilla, who has Filipino ancestry, notes on his personal blog that the clinic for whom the ad was made has a Facebook page which carries some terrible reviews, and "you may not want to get a circumcision done here".

He has also helpfully translated the slogan at the bottom of the poster. “Cheap, still with a doctor, still at a hospital…this is where you get painless circumcision!”

We could not independently confirm whether the doctor performing the delicate procedure is a mutant or just wears a glove with three massive knives tied to it.
