Authorities shut border for 2 hours after angry protestors scuffle with border officials

QUETTA: At least three persons sustained injuries on Saturday when violent protesters clashed with security officials at the Pak-Afghan border crossing point of Chaman in Balochistan.

Thousands cross border at Torkham, Chaman

According to reports, the clash started during checking of travellers’ Computerised National Identity Cards (CNICs) and other travel documents at the border crossing.

The altercation – that started apparently over a delay in verification of documents – turned into a scuffle with the security officials, who resorted to baton-charge and areal firing to disperse the crowd. The protesters also pelted stones at the border officials.

Pak-Afghan border opens for two days

In the wake of the clash, the border crossing was closed down, only to be reopened after two hours.

The border crossings between Pakistan and Afghanistan had remained closed for a month after a serious of terrorist attacks that were claimed mostly by an Afghanistan based terrorist group.
