‘Promote sports through combined effort’

POA to initiate awareness programme in Sindh.

LAHORE:

The Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) President Lt-Gen Arif Hasan believes that sport in the country will only improve its standards by coordinated efforts of the ministries of youth and education.

Pakistan can hope of winning an Olympic gold only in hockey because, according to Hasan, all the other disciplines in the country do not come up to the international standards.

“After winning the Asian Games gold, the national sport is the only discipline in which we can hope for a medal in the London Olympics,” he said before adding that the POA, in collaboration with the British Council and UNICEF, was planning to organise a sports and education awareness programme in Sindh.

“We have also planned to hold a national sports convention and all the stake-holders will be invited to give their views on the matter. I also pray for the cricket team to win the World Cup as it would give a new lease of life to the entire nation.”
