Nine-year-old crushed to death by Sindh University bus

Witnesses say bus hit rickshaw from behind and as the boy fell from the three-wheeler, the bus ran over him

HYDERABAD: A nine-year-old school student was crushed to death in an accident involving a Sindh University (SU) bus and a rickshaw in Hyderabad on Wednesday.

The incident happened on Wadu Wah Road near a dangerous U-turn, which remains clogged due to traffic in busy hours.

The deceased, Gul Muhammad Shah, son of Munawar Ali Shah, was a class five student of County Cambridge School. His father, a resident of Muslim Society area, who belongs to Qazi Ahmed, Nawabshah, is a landlord.

According to the police, witnesses said the bus hit the rickshaw from behind and as the boy fell from the three-wheeler due to the impact, the bus ran over him. Muhammad Ali Mallah, the driver of the bus, escaped the scene. However, hours later, he was handed over to the police on SU Vice-Chancellor (VC) Prof Dr Fateh Muhammad Burfat's directives.

This was the third death caused by the SU's buses. On February 16, the varsity's point trampled a final-year physics department student, Shaista Memon. The incident happened inside the campus near Zero Point. On February 8, another SU student belonging to the computer science department, Jahanzeb Arain, was also run over by a bus near the varsity's entrance.

Commenting on the February 16 accident, VC Prof Burfat had told The Express Tribune that he has ordered their drivers to be strictly checked, with the help of driving tests and supervision.

The incident's FIR has yet to be registered. The body was handed over to the family for burial after post-mortem.
