ISLAMABAD: A man* allegedly strangled his teenaged daughter* to death over her suspected relationship with a boy in Golra, police said on Tuesday.

Police said that they received a call on their 15 emergency number on Tuesday morning that a girl had been murdered. A squad rushed to the spot and arrested the girl’s father.

A homicide investigator told The Express Tribune that the suspect, a butcher and a father of six kids, had strangled his daughter because he suspected she had a relationship with a boy in the neighbourhood.

The girl’s mother in her formal complaint noted that her husband came home at around 9am in the morning and asked her to get some medicines for him from the medical store. When she returned home after a while, her husband told her that he had strangled their daughter.

Hearing this, she rushed into the room and saw the lifeless body of her daughter.

In the meantime, two of her brothers-in-law also showed up at their doorstep. The girl’s mother said that her husband told them as well that he had killed his daughter for ‘honour’, adding that he had also called the police.

The police officer added that trouble had been brewing in the family for the past two to three days over the issue.

“He squeezed her throat and killed her and then informed the police about it through the 15 emergency number,” the investigator said.

Meanwhile, the 16-year-old girl’s body was shifted to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) for an autopsy. Doctors there confirmed that the girl had been strangled to death. “There were no signs on her body except for the bruises on her neck and signs of light bleeding from her lips,” a doctor at Pims told The Express Tribune.

“It seems that the girl’s throat and mouth were squeezed which led to her death.”

Doctors also collected samples from her stomach, liver and spleen and sent them for a chemical examination.

This is the third case of honour killing in the capital in the past month. Two men were killed allegedly by their in-laws who did not approve of their ‘love marriages’.
