Governor confers civil awards

Academics, artists, civil servants and sports people among recipients.

LAHORE: Academics, artists, civil servants, policemen and sports people were prominent among the people decorated on Wednesday with civil awards for services in their respective fields.

Nineteen President’s Awards for Pride of Performance, 19 Tamgha-i-Imtiaz and 10 Sitara-e-Imtiaz were presented at a ceremony organised in connection with the Pakistan Day at the Governor’s House.

The recipients included Pinstech Theoretical Plasma Physics Divison Islamabad’s Dr Shehzad Mahmood; Professor Dr Khalida Enayat Noor; NPER Senior Director Saleem Ikram Insari; University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences’s Vice Chancellor Dr Muhammad Nawaz; PTV music director Wazeer Fazal; Ustad Hussain Bakhsh Gullu; late Ustad Sharafat Ali (his widow Farhat Sultana collected the award), actor Samina Ahmed; Ustad Alam; Institute of Blue Pottery’s Muhammad Alam; Habibur Rehman; Punjab University Oriental College (Urdu Department)’s Chairman Dr Akhtar Tehseen Faraqi; Ashfaq Hussain Zaidi; Ahmed Saleem; ILM College Gujrat’s Professor Saifur Rehman Saifi; former joint secretary at the Prime Minister’s Secretariat late Shams Malik (his son Anwar Malik collected the award); late Anwar Saleem (his widown Farhat Saleem collected the award); Khalid Ahmed; late Shahid Peraiz Butt (his widow Noreen Shahid Butt collected the award) and cricket umpire Aleem Sarwar Dar.

The recipients included Pakistan Institute of Engineering and Applied Sciences  Islamabad’s Dr Shahid Qamar and Dr Muhammad Tufail; University of Sargodha Physics Department’s chairman Dr Muhamamd Nawaz Tahir; University of Agriculture Faisalabad’s Director General Dr Faqeer Muhammad Anjum; Qamar Ijaz Alvi; late Faqira Bhagat (his widow Mai Mitho received the award); Muhammad Ashraf Khan; Singer Saira Naseem; Ghulam Abbas; late Master Ghulam Haider (his son Parvaiz Haider collected the award); Dr Hamid Hussain; Nasreen Anjum Bhatti; Punjab Public Service Commission’s Tariq Mahmood; Rasheed Ahmed Malik; DIG (Welfare) Zulfiqar Cheema: CCPO (Lahore) Aslam Tareen; Civil Defence’s Nisar Ahmed Khan; FIA’s Tahir Iqbal and Sajid Ali.

Sitara-e-Imtiaz

The recipients included Pakistan Metrological Department Director General Dr Qaramuzaman Chaudhry; Quaid-i-Azam University (Mathematics Department) Professor Dr Tasavur Hayat, School Of Chemical and Materials’ Professor Mrs Asghari Masood; College of Arts and Design Research Centre’s Professor Shaukat Mahmood (Maxim); Shaikh Khalifa bin Zayd al Nahyan Medical and Dental College

principal Dr Zafar Iqbal; Rising Sun Institute for Special Children founder and honorary director Mrs Parveen Tawab; Rescue 1122 Director General Dr Rizwan Naseer, tennis star Aisamul Haq Qureshi; and late Maulana Hafeezur Rehman ( his nephews Iftikhar Ahmed and Mian Muhammad Haneef collected the award).

The awards were established on March 19, 1957.
