ABBOTABAD: In a society where feuds are inherited by generations and litigations stretch for decades, a body of prominent citizens is hammering out compromises, reducing court times and conflicts.
The Dispute Resolution Committee (DRC) Abbottabad has successfully disposed of 700 complaints of different nature over the last four years, reducing the burden of courts and helping citizens get their complaints addressed without getting into lengthy litigation.
Abbottabad DRC member Qazi Ghulam Asfiya, while talking to the media on Sunday, elaborated that the DRC comprised 21 members who have good public reputation in their respective communities. Most of the members were retired officers of forces, police and also social activists.
The office of the committee is housed in a building provided by the police department and it is answerable directly to the Hazara DIG.
Asfiya went on to explain that there are three seven–member panels of the DRC headed by General (retired) Salim Rana.
Giving a breakdown of the cases disposed of, Asfiya said, the committee had resolved 222 complaints during 2014, 170 in 2015 followed by 276 last year and 149 in the first quarter of the current year.
He said that ever growing numbers of complaints received by DRC reflects the enhanced level of confidence and trust the general public reposes in DRC.
He explained that people prefer getting their matters resolved through the DRC instead of engaging in prolonged court litigations which are often costly affairs.
