ISLAMABAD: Police have arrested two people after they fraudulently deprived a man of his money while pretending to be mystics on Saturday.

The suspects, identified as Nazeer Ahmed and Nasir Hussain, were produced before a magistrate on Sunday and sent to judicial custody.

On Saturday, the two deprived a man of Rs8,000 in Jhangi Syedan area after promising to send him to Madina and also double the cash in his pocket.

Shehzad Ali, the victim, told police that the men approached him while he was at a mechanic’s workshop. Mistaking them as beggars, he gave them Rs10. However, when the two men added Rs10 from their own pocket and returned the money, he took notice. The suspects told Ali that they were not beggars, rather were mystics.

“They told Ali that Allah was happy with him and that he would get a chance to go for Umra this month,” the officer said, adding that the suspects also played a stone-bead trick with Ali promising that the bead would double money in his purse by evening.

The victim told the police that when he checked his wallet a few hours later, he found that Rs8,000 he was carrying had gone missing. Realising that he had been conned, he lodged a complaint with the Noon police.

Police arrested both the suspects on Saturday evening and recovered the money from them.

They were produced before a magistrate on Sunday and sent to judicial custody.
