LAHORE: A senior citizen, who claims to have played a role in the pre-Partition struggle for Pakistan, has taken his neighbour to court for tying his buffaloes on a street and creating a nuisance for pedestrians.

In a petition to a sessions court, Anwar Hussain has accused Akram Butt of disrespecting his efforts in the creation of Pakistan by turning down his request to shift the roadside pen somewhere else.

Anwar claimed the buffaloes on the street not only created an ugly atmosphere in the neighbourhood but were also a hindrance for the people heading to a nearby mosque during prayer times.

The residents of the locality, he stated, were facing major problems due to the respondent’s routine of leaving the cattle on the road.

The petitioner stated a large section of the street was littered with droppings, leaving no place for pedestrians to pass through.

Upset by the situation, Anwar introduced himself to Akram, who promised to tie up the animals but did not abide by his word. A few other residents also requested the man to shift the buffaloes, but he remained defiant.

Anwar told the court he had approached the Baghbanpura SHO to register a case against Akram but the police did nothing. Afterwards, he approached the court seeking an order to direct the authorities to register an FIR against the respondent.

According to the petition, Anwar has been awarded Tamgha-e-Shujaat by the government in recognition of his role in the creation of Pakistan alongside Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah.

The court has sought comments from the SHO.
