K-P unveils compendium for school teachers

The website aims to improve conceptual understanding of the students

PESHAWAR: In an effort to improve teaching quality and ensure students conceptual understanding in various areas, the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Elementary and Secondary Education Department (E&SED) has prepared an online compendium for primary school teachers.

Currently, the compendium has content on subjects fifth graders were found struggling in an assessment carried out in 2016.



It has been mentioned on the website that the compendium aims to help primary school teachers and is also a useful forum for subject specialists in the DCTE or PITE as the website will help them identify the areas that require attention and remediation in the professional development activities.

The department conducted fifth grade assessments in 2016 which helped them identify subject areas in which students were frequently making mistakes. The website is part of the provincial government’s efforts to provide uniform education and improve teaching quality.

KP E&SED Media Advisor Ziaur Rehman told The Express Tribune that the compendium will be useful in improving teaching and learning in the classroom and it will enhance the capacity of teachers in primary schools.



“It is expected that this information will help in responding to the learning needs of students and will ultimately result in improvement in their learning gains,” he shared.

He said that the compendium contains tips for students for better understanding of English, mathematics, Urdu, social studies and science subjects and is also a highly useful tool for parents.

Rehman urged teachers to visit the website and download the compendium for their learning and teaching skills. He also shared that they are trying to distribute copy of the compendium in schools.
