Recruitment: Constables allowed to sit in exams

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Monday directed the Punjab Public Services Commission (PPSC) and the Police Department to allow police constables to appear in an examination to fill 750 vacancies for assistant sub inspector (ASI) positions across Punjab.

Justice Umer Ata Bandial passed the order on identical petitions by 30 police constables against the Home Department, the Police Department and the PPSC.

The petitions disputed the age limit of 25 years set for the examination with no age relaxation for in-service constables. The petitioners submitted that respondents had acted maliciously using the age bar to oust in-service police constables from the competition.
