SUKKUR: After a long time, the Sukkur Municipal Corporation (SMC) organised a three-day flower exhibition in Mohammad Bin Qasim Park, which came to life after years of neglect.

Interestingly, instead of putting in its own efforts into the exhibition, the SMC has borrowed flower pots from different departments with a major share from a big departmental store for three days.

This is the first time in years that the SMC has organised a flower exhibition in the city to provide a recreational activity for the citizens.
A variety of flowers have been put on display in a beautiful manner and stalls have been setup, selling food items.

SMC owns around 15 big and small public parks in the city and all of them are in shambles due to neglect.

Sukkur Mayor Arsalan Shaikh admitted that some flower pots were borrowed from different departments, while some have been arranged by the SMC. The flower show is aimed at providing a healthy recreational opportunity to residents who otherwise do not have many places to go to, he said, adding that musical nights have also been organised to enthrall the people.

Speaking about the poor conditions of public parks in the city, Shaikh said that permission has been sought from the Sindh chief minister to recruit 400 people to maintain public parks in the city.

"We have taken a step forward in this regard and I am hopeful that after the recruitment of these employees, we will be able to provide better recreational opportunities to the residents of Sukkur," he added.
