In January, a man was killed and three others injured as a motorcycle rickshaw carrying students to their school collided with a truck on National Highway near Gambat. The rickshaw driver died on the spot while three children were injured. The police impounded the vehicle, while its driver managed to flee.

The government has in the past issued directives to disallow heavy vehicles on major highways during certain timings, but to no avail. Recently, a local news channel reported that authorities have barred heavy vehicles on Karachi's Boloch Colony bridge, but these are still seen plying on the major artery, that too, during school timings.
