ISLAMABAD: The Japanese government has extended financial support to a welfare organisation which would build a link road to remote villages in Murree.

As part of Rs41 million in grants extended to five social development projects in different parts of Punjab on Thursday, Tokyo approved Rs8.08 million for the Sanj Welfare Society (SWS).

Agreements for the five projects were signed between Junya Matsuura, Chargé ď Affaires ad Interim of Japan, and heads of the five organisations in Islamabad on Thursday.

Under the grant, SWS would construct a 1.5 kilometre-long link road in Pharrel Village in Murree Tehsil of Rawalpindi district. The road would connect people from five villages and would grant them access to schools, hospitals and other basic facilities.

The project is expected to benefit around 907 households, or approximately 9,000 people living in these villages.

Apart from SWS, the Japanese government has extended financial grant, under its for Grass-Roots Human Security Projects (GGP) Programme, to the Mian Afzal Trust Hospital (MATH) in Gujranwala, Pakiza Public Girls Elementary School in Bhakkar, the Lahore Association Pakistan (LAP) and the Human Appeal International (HAI) in Faisalabad for implementing social development projects for disadvantaged communities of the country.
