RAWALPINDI: Rawalpindi police on Wednesday suspended three officials for protecting a gang of car lifters and street criminals and for misusing their power.

Regional Police Officer (RPO) Wisal Fakhar Sultan on Wednesday suspended New Town police SHO Inspector Mirza Muhammad Yasin, Waris Khan police’s SI Muhammad Aslam and a head constable Imran.

SHO Yasin and constable Imran had been suspended following an inquiry report submitted by Rawal Division SP Malik Muhammad Iqbal. The inquiry revealed that the duo was involved in corruption and other misdeeds.

Further, the report noted that Yasin had apprehended car thieves but instead of booking them and taking action against them, he freed them in exchange for some people whom he falsely implicated in drug cases.

Sources said SI Muhammad Aslam had also been suspended on charges taking a bribe to free a man who had been booked after a cheque he gave had been dishonoured by the bank.

The RPO also tasked CIA SP Maria Mehmood to conduct further inquiries against the three suspended cops and submit a report within 15 days.

Rawal SP Iqbal, when contacted, confirmed that SHO and other two cops were involved in corruption, protecting car lifters and carrying out other illegal activities.
