Islamabad's 10th Avenue to be constructed soon

Underpasses in Sectors G-7, F7 to be built as soon as planning is complete

ISLAMABAD: The Capital Development Authority is planning to start construction on the 10th Avenue which will connect IJ Principal Road and Khayaban-e-Iqbal.

This was disclosed in a meeting chaired by Islamabad Metropolitan Corporation (IMC) Mayor and Capital Development Authority (CDA) Chairman Sheikh Anser Aziz on Friday.

The meeting discussed several projects which would be initiated by various civic bodies in the federal capital. The meeting was briefed that planning for 10th Avenue’s construction is in last stages. The road would start at IJP Road and pass through Sectors I-10, H-10, G-10, F-10 before terminating at Khayaban-e-Iqbal.

The new thoroughfare would directly benefit a host of sectors including E-11, D-12, E-12, F-11, G-11, H-11 and I-11.

The meeting was further told that planning for underpasses to connect Sectors G-7 and G-8 was also in the final stages. Similarly, an underpass connecting Sector F-7 with Sector F-8 was in the last phase of planning. Immediately after planning, work on these underpasses would begin.

“The present CDA administration is undertaking these projects because the past civic administration had turned a blind eye to such pivotal projects. Their negligence has caused the people of Islamabad to suffer a lot,” Mayor Aziz said.

Apart from 10th Avenue, the meeting was told that construction work for 6th Avenue was also in the last stages of planning and designing.  The road would start from Khayban-e-Suhrawardy and would initially end at Aga Khan Road.

Similarly, planning is underway to extend 7th Avenue till Garden Avenue. This project will also include the expansion of Garden Avenue.

Aziz was briefed that protection of the environment and minimising costs were the two fundamental principles which were guiding the planning of all new projects in the capital.

“Islamabad is in dire need of expanding its infrastructure. Due to its rising population, the capital city needs new solutions [to mitigate effects of expanding population],” the mayor said.

“We are public representatives and we are aware of
public problems.

“We are searching for solutions and are executing [projects] on the ground.

We are trying to find remedies to the mistakes [committed] by city managers in the past,” Aziz said. Other projects discussed in the meeting include the expansion of existing infrastructure and addition of new lanes to ease the flow of traffic.

The meeting was attended by senior officers of the Islamabad Metropolitan Corporation and the CDA.
