Basit’s unbeaten ton downs AJK

Hosts Bahawalpur beat visitors by innings and 81 runs on Sunday

KARACHI: An unbeaten ton by Adeel Basit helped Bahawalpur beat AJK by an innings and 81 runs on the second day of their second fixture of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy at Dring Stadium in Bahawalpur on Sunday.

Hosts resumed at the overnight score of 168-1 and declared their first innings on 340-9 in 83 overs as Basit finished not out on 132 off 222 balls along with Mudassar Nazir, who scored 107 off 178 balls.

For the visitors, Salam Irshad and Shadab Majeed were the pick of the bowlers, as both claimed three wickets each.

Trailing by 197 runs, AJK began their second innings and were bowled out for just 116 inside 40 overs, courtesy Imranullah Aslam’s five-wicket haul. He was well supported by Muhammad Imran, who claimed four wickets.

In another match at Multan Stadium, brilliant bowling performance from Abdul Rehman, Muhammad Irfan and Mansoor Amjad guided Sialkot to 10-wicket victory over Larkana.

Trailing by 337 runs, Larkana resumed their first innings on 55-2, managed to add just 110 runs and were bowled out for 162, with Rehman and Irfan claiming four wickets each.

Sialkot enforced follow-on, but Larkana could not manage to put up a better show, and managed to score just 233 runs, thanks Muhammad Urs and Asif Babar’s half-centuries.

Amjad was the pick of the bowlers for Sialkot in the second innings, as he claimed five wickets, whereas Irfan claimed three. Sialkot then achieved the target of four runs in the third over without losing a wicket.

At Niaz Stadium, Hyderabad, the home side beat DM Jamali by eight wickets with the help of Nasir Awais' five-wicket haul.

Hyderabad resumed their first innings on 99-6 and were able to put a total of 206 runs in 69 overs with the help of unbeaten 66 from Nauman Ali.

DM Jamali in their second innings were restricted to just 111 in 35 overs as Awais took five wickets and just gave away 19 runs.

Hyderabad then chased the 47-run target in the ninth over at the loss of two wickets.

Meanwhile, at the National Stadium of Karachi, Quetta resumed their first innings on 25-0 and were eventually bowled out for 348, giving Abbottabad 96-run lead in the first innings. At the close of play,  Abbottabad managed to score 29 for the loss of two wickets in their second innings, taking the overall lead to 125.
