Research & development: UAF, Nigerian varsity agree on collaboration

Both the universities agree to cooperate in academic staff exchanges

FAISALABAD: Nasarawa State University, Nigeria and the University of Agriculture Faisalabad have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for collaboration in academia staff exchange, student internship and research activities.

UAF Vice Chancellor Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan and Nasarawa State University, Nigeria Vice Chancellor Prof Muhammad Akano Mainoma signed the MoU.

According to MoU, both the universities will collaborate in academic cooperation including academic staff exchanges, exchange of research material, research collaboration and post doctorial fellowship opportunities at UAF.

Nigerian Acting High Commissioner Aminu Abdulkadir, Nigerian Commissioner of Agriculture Nasarawa State Muhammad J Zakari, Nigerian Dean Faculty of Agriculture Dr IM Haruna, Dr MM Ari and other notables also attend the signing ceremony.



Aminu said Pakistan and Nigeria were enjoying friendly and strong ties. Nigeria and Pakistan would continue to maintain closer relationships and the two countries have also closer ties, especially in the area of technology transfer.

He lauded the steps taken by the varsity for the educational and agricultural development.

Akano stressed the need for strengthen the educational and research ties. He said the MoU would help to get benefits from each. He added the majority of the Pakistan population was dependent upon the agriculture sector.

Earlier giving a briefing, UAF Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan stressed the need for boost up academic and agricultural ties between the both nations. He said enhanced academic ties with Nigeria would open up new avenue of progress and prosperity.

He said the UAF has developed 101 innovations that would revolutionise the economy and make the agriculture sector sustainable, profitable and help open new business avenues for rural development and prosperity He said Pak-Korea Hi-Tech Agriculture Innovation Center/Technology Park would be established at the University of Agriculture, Faisalabad with an amount of Rs3 billion.
