Revenue: Excise duty increase notified

The Federal Board of Revenue has issued a notification announcing an increase in the rate of special excise duty.

ISLAMABAD: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has issued a notification announcing an increase in the rate of special excise duty (SED) from one per cent to 2.5 per cent till June 30 on a large variety of essential goods.

Sources said that the 2.5 per cent SED would be applicable to vegetables, edible oil, pharmaceuticals, petroleum products, electricity and fertilisers as well as items classified in Chapter 99 of the Pakistan Customs Tariff and temporarily imported goods under the Duty and Tax Remission for Exports (DTRE) scheme.
