KARACHI:

Pakistan Army’s Asad Mahmood outclassed 56 other cyclists in the Tour de Pakistan when he reached Rawalpindi amidst heavy rain as the 13-day race completed its 10th stage, yesterday.

Mahmood covered the distance of 150 kilometres (km) from Gujrat to Rawalpindi in three hours 48 minutes and one second, while Sui Southern Gas Corporation’s Habibullah followed him with a difference of 10 seconds and Wapda’s Abdul Ahad secured the third spot in three hours 49 minutes and nine seconds.

“Cycling in the rain was more fun than just competing in the race,” Mahmood told The Express Tribune. “I took the lead when we were 50 km away from Rawalpindi.

“I only realised that I am winning the race when it was just the three of us and I couldn’t see anyone else.

“During the last moments it felt like it’s just the three cyclists who are competing in the race.”

While Mahmood won on day 10, Wapda’s Sabir still leads the race with an overall margin of one minute three seconds after winning five stages out of 10.

The cyclists will cover 150km in the eleventh and the last stage from Rawalpindi to Abbottabad today.
