Danish Kaneria arrested in UK

Express May 15, 2010

LONDON:

Pakistani cricketer Danish Kaneria was arrested in United Kingdom on suspicion of conspiracy to commit fraud.

Essex police has also arrested fast bowler Mervyn Westfield in the same case.

The arrests were made following the police's investigation into alleged spot-fixing in Essex's Pro40 match against Durham last September.

Both men appeared at Brentwood police station on Friday and were questioned under caution.

They were later released on bail until Sept 15, pending further inquiries.

Both players are free to continue playing cricket, as neither has yet been charged with any offence.

Kaneria is thought to have introduced Westfield to an illegal bookmaker.
