BB murder case: FIA seeks more time to arrest Musharraf

FIA says arrest warrants for former president have been received by the authorities in Britain.

RAWALPINDI: The joint investigation team, probing the murder case of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, on Saturday, sought more time from the court, to arrest former President Pervez Musharraf.

During the hearing of the case, which took place at the Adiyala Jain in Rawalpindi, Public Prosecutor Chaudhry Zulfiqar requested the court to declare Musharraf a proclaimed offender.

He asked the court to indict arrested former City Police Officer (CPO) Saud Aziz, along with other suspects.

On the other hand, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) maintained that arrest warrants for the former president have been received by the authorities in Britain.

An FIA official said they were awaiting a reply from Britain and sought more time to proceed with the issue.

The court was adjourned till March 26, 2011.

Jupiter | 13 years ago | Reply @Zaka: Yes, it was told that he got rid of IMF. After he left office the payments became due and Pakistan reserves started to deplete very quickly. It was all borrowed money which you are proclaiming. There was no budget surplus in his years so how can you explain the reserves of 17 billion funded. I am not defending the current govt. which is even worse, all I am saying Musharraf allegiance lies somewhere else and not in Pakistan, just like other leaders we have now. We are nations of blind followers lead by blind leaders.

Uza Syed | 13 years ago | Reply @Tariq Ahmad: Yes, I support an independent judiciary, it must be freed of all those 'elements' in it which jeopardize its independence and create doubts about its integrity and non-partisan standing ----- all those must bemade to leave ------- whose mere presence in this august house and bench provokes doubts and questions in the minds of Pakistanis and, perhaps, in minds of any other neutral observer anywhere outside Pakistan.

These are the questions mr. musharaf has to answer for getting himself clear!

The way it works is bankers (Musharraf's so called friends from abroad) flood the country with money supply through loans from abroad. This leads for everyone to believe the prosperity has come since their is money for everyone, car loans, home loans, shaadi loans, credit card, cash loans. Then bankers reduce the money supply, then news paper report we hit a recession. Then based on Greenspan-Gudiotti research paper the speculators attacks the country with everything hence we got the Rupee against dollar move from 60s to 80s by the time new government came. Now tell me why the leader of Pakistan did this to Pakistan. Unfortunately we have forgotten our deen Islam and until we fix that there is no light at the end of tunnel. Sorry. Hope? If Musharraf understands what he did and apologizes and meets Al Ghazali ten principles of a leader he can expect my vote.

Kindly correct your data; in his10 years of rule debt increased from $38 billion to $39 billion, while now the debt is $55 billion. When Musharraf tookover the country was financially defaulted. Total reserves were $0.6 billion, which he increased to $17 billion.

He tried to do good but unfortunately to save himself he gave NRO to Pakistan, increased Pakistan debt, handed finance ministry to a vulture from Citibank. I would love to support him on our ethnicity but that is 90s. This is 2010, if we are to avoid the fate of corrupted nations we need to avoid people like him and others in power.

He might not be the best leader as best is defined, but the best among all those who are around or have been. Alone for this one service to our nation ------ President Musharraf is and will remain my greatest hero ----- I consider our this ability and freedom to communicate and debate, openly, various issues in public spaces is great educational experience. It's helping us as people to express ourselves and hear counter arguments and be better informed ------ this gives me hope for the future.
