KARACHI: Photographer Jamal Ashiqain's latest work, images depicting the cityscape in Bangkok or rain in Phuket, both in Thailand, or even shadows of trees in Mauritius, redefines the concept of structural beauty.

His work is currently on display at an exhibition, titled 'Exploring Structures', at Studio Seven. "I am celebrating structures here. I see that different structures form different mediums and they behave differently in a given environment," said Ashiqain.

"If you see, the cityscape here it looks more like rubble from afar, but really it is the city of Bangkok," he explained while gesturing to his work.

"With the sun in the backdrop, it looks as if the trees are all peeking out, with the large ones forming a shadow of sorts," said the artist about the photograph of trees in Mauritius.

Though he is greatly in awe of these structures, he said, "Be it manmade or natural, each structure has rigid lines between them, however a kind of softness is to be found in natural objects".

With 15 pieces on display, he debated what work to show. He visited Mauritius in August 2016 and Thailand about a year back, stating, "I have a huge body of work, but I really wanted to display these few images, specifically from my visit to these two countries".
