Facing The Consequences: Two robbers awarded death sentence

The judge also sentenced them to five years in prison and ordered each of them to pay a fine to victim's family

KARACHI: A sessions court handed down capital punishment to two peeople accused of killing a man for resistance in a robbery bid in Gulshan-e-Iqbal area in July 2011.

The additional district and sessions judge (East), Kamran Ata Soomro, awarded a death sentence to Farman Ali and Jahangir after they were found guilty of murdering Hafiz Abul Ala in a robbery bid.

According to the prosecution, the victim was buying grocery with his wife and children at a market in Block 6 of Gulshan-e-Iqbal when Ali and Jahangir, riding a motorcycle, tried to rob him and upon resistance fired shots at him.

The judge also sentenced them to five years in prison and ordered each of them to pay a fine of Rs200,000 to the victim’s family. In case of default, they will undergo six more months of imprisonment. The accused were arrested weeks after the incident.
