Food poisoning: ‘Toxic’ breakfast hospitalises family

Two of the victims are said to be in a critical condition

LAHORE: Breakfast on Sunday morning turned into a tragedy for a family of 12 in Green Town after its eight members were hospitalised owing to food poisoning. Two of the victims were said to be in a critical condition.

Police and rescue officials said the family had eaten their morning meal and fell unconscious after some time. One of the family members called Rescue 1122 when their condition deteriorated. A rescue team shifted the victims to Jinnah Hospital, where four victims were discharged after treatment and the rest were admitted.

Nine of the victims were identified as 45-year-old Hanifan Bibi, 36-year-old Sameer, 16-year-old Fatima, 10-year-old Rehan, nine-year-old Zeeshan and Areeba, Javed, Hazma and Afshan. Police said they were investigating the matter and would take legal action against those found responsible.
