The City District Government of Lahore (CDGL) claimed on Saturday, the second day of its anti-encroachment drive, to have removed encroachments from 23 kilometres along city’s major arteries. The land reclaimed from the encroachers’ possession was valued at around Rs440 million, according to the CDGL statistics.
CDGL’s Revenue Department said it recovered 50 kanals land worth Rs85 million in Harbanspura, six kanals worth Rs125 million from around Mochi Gate area and a two-kanal plot worth Rs230 million near Lal Pul.
Sixty two illegally constructed shops were pulled down during Saturday’s crackdown. Besides, 845 ramps, 312 shades, 479 stairs and 297 signboards were razed. As many as 19 truck loads of material was removed from the nine towns.
Wagha Town administration cleared encroachments from six kilometres. Three staircases, four shades and 94 ramps were demolished and two truck-loads of temporary encroachments were seized.
Shalimar Town officials removed encroachments from three kilometre in Baghbanpura. They bulldozed 20 ramps and shades, 20 staircases and pulled down 25 signboards. Allama Iqbal Town administration bulldozed 26 ramps, 17 shops, 15 shades and 8 staircases from 32800 square-feet area. Data Gunj Bakhsh Town administration removed encroachments from 8200 square feet area. They pulled down 560 ramps, 185 shades, 400 staircases and 210 sign boards.
Nishter Town administration demolished 57 ramps and 18 shades. Aziz Bhatti Town demolished 50 ramps, 25 shades, 45 stairs and 10 sign boards. Ravi Town demolished 25 illegally-built shops, 40 shades and four signboards.
Samanabad Town demolished 10 ramps and 15 sign boards. Gulberg Town demolished 15 ramps and three shades. The Lahore Development Authority cleared encroachments from 12 kanals of land under its jurisdiction. It demolished four shops, 11 ramps, seven shades and 14 sign boards.
LDA sacks three
The Lahore Development Authority (LDA) has forcibly retired three sub engineers from its service for their involvement in illegal construction of high rise buildings.
The authority has dropped proceedings against the forth official on account of his death. Proceedings against the four were initiated on recommendations of the High Rise Buildings Commission, constituted on a directive from the Supreme Court of Pakistan.
