The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has an operational methodology comprising of three stages for the proceeding of cases which includes complaint verification, inquiry and investigation.

NAB Chairman Qamar Zaman Chaudhry made these remarks while chairing a meeting to review the progress of the accountability body at the NAB headquarters said a press release, on Wednesday.

Chaudhry said that NAB believes in ‘Zero corruption – 100 per cent development’.

The NAB chairman added that the number of complaints, inquiries and investigations have doubled in comparison to the previous years.

“The comparative figures are indicative for the last two years are indicative of the hard work being put in by all ranks of NAB staff in an atmosphere of renewed energy and dynamism, where the fight against corruption is being taken as a national duty,” the head of NAB added.

Anti-corruption message: ‘NAB awareness campaign successful’

He quoted a Pakistan Institute of Legislative Development and Transparency report which claims that 42 per cent of the public has trust in the accountability body.

He said that owing to the efforts of NAB, Pakistan has become a model state for the South Asian Association for Regional Development (SAARC) countries in the eradication of corruption.

He added that the country being made the first Chairman of SAARC countries Anti-Corruption Forum is a manifestation of the bureau’s efforts.

The NAB chairman said that Pakistan is now rated 122 in contrast to its previous position of 126 in the Global Competitiveness Index of the World Economic Forum.

Chaudhry said that NAB was reinvigorated in 2014 owing to various changes which include detailed introspection, analysis of organisational weaknesses and an overhaul of procedures and business processes.

“An effective accountability mechanism is quintessential for economic growth, investment and stability of social order,” Chaudhry added.

Chaudhry further added that NAB had adopted am the enforcement based approach in the fight against corruption, as well as, underscoring awareness and prevention activities to education the public.

He said that the youth is our main asset and the future of our country.

Accordingly, more than 42,000 Character Building Societies (CBS) have been established in educational institutes nation-wide.

He elucidated that the accountability body plans to establish at least 50,000 CBS in 2017.
