Chennai Express producer granted anticipatory bail in rape case

Chennai Express producer Karim Morani has been granted anticipatory bail in a rape case against him by a Mumbai-based theatre artiste, reported Deccan Chronicle.

The 24-year-old victim, a friend of his daughter Zoa, had accused Karim of sexual harassment. According to her, he had also threatened to leak their intimate pictures on social media. Police are waiting for call records between both to establish whether Karim was in Hyderabad when the alleged incident happened in 2015.

On Monday, a court granted him anticipatory bail after hearing arguments. "The petitioner (Karim Morani) is entitled for anticipatory bail. In the event of the arrest of the petitioner, the petitioner shall be released on bail on his executing personal bond of 50,000 with two sureties for like sum each to the satisfaction of the investigating officer," the order read.

"Further, the petitioner shall cooperate with the investigating agency and shall attend before the investigating officer as and when required and shall present before the court whenever required by the investigating officer for further investigation in the matter," the document went on to read.
