Arresting innocents: Judge issues notice to DSP, inspector  

Notices issued against 10 constables for wrongfully implicating six people in an illegal arms case

RAWALPINDI: A special judge  in Islamabad issued notices to a deputy superintendent of police, an inspector, an assistant sub inspector and 10 constables for wrongfully implicating six people in an illegal arms case.

Islamabad Central Special Judge Malik Nazeer acquitted Mohammad Sadar, Nasrullah, Mohammad Rashid, Yaqoob, Amsood and Shah Rez in an arms possession case.

The court also accepted their plea to register cases against DSP Malik Naeem Iqbal, Inspector Qasim Niazi, ASI Mian Zulfiqar and 10 constables who had arrested them.

They were booked by the Koral police for illegal arms possession, when the weapons recovered from them were all licensed.

Defence counsel, Ghufran Khursheed Imtiazi, while seeking cases against police officers for wrongful arrest, sought the return of Rs2 million, 10 tolas of gold and two cell phones the raiding party took away from the home of the defendants.
