FBI follow the trail of Faisal Shahzad

NEW YORK: Federal agents have raided several locations and made a number of arrests in the northeastern United States as part of an investigation into the failed Times Square car bombing, the FBI said on Thursday.

"We can confirm that several search warrants have been executed in the northeast in connection with the Times Square bombing investigation," FBI spokeswoman Gail Marcinkiewicz told AFP.

"Two individuals encountered during the searches were taken into federal custody in connection with immigration violations," she added.

Marcinkiewicz declined to specify further where the raids occurred, but reports said a home in the Massachusetts town of Watertown was among those targeted by agents from the Federal Bureau of Investigation on Thursday morning.

On the same day, Pakistan Interior Minister Rehman Malik said that foreign agencies will not be allowed to investigate Faisal Shahzad's case in Pakistan.

Baccha Khan | 14 years ago | Reply Whatever motivated Faisal Shahzad, we may never know. What we do know from published reports that he was drastically ill prepared to carry on the alleged attack. Whatever else the coming months may reveal, one thing is quite clear, that the law enforcement agencies have proved to be quite up to snuff in apprehending terror suspects- Shahzad dropping breadcrumbs all along, notwithstanding. Its hard to imagine that a person trained in writing programs, wouldn't even attempt a rudimentary flow chart for the most important program he'd ever execute or attempt to throw smoke screens to wade off his pursuers- or was he caught in an infinite loop he couldn't get out of.
