SUKKUR: The Sangi police arrested two men on Wednesday on charges of holding a jirga and ordering the marriage of two children.

On February 28, landlord Dilawar Chachar led a jirga to resolve a karo-kari dispute and decided that Ismail Chachar will marry his seven-year-old daughter, Hafeeza, to Owais Chachar’s five-year-old son, Tayyab.

On Tuesday, Maulvi Qutubuddin Chachar solemnised the nikah. The police raided the ceremony on a tipoff and arrested Dilawar and Owais but the maulvi escaped. The police have taken the children into custody and will produce them in court today.
