Innovative management: PU to introduce digitised learning system

Moodle will initially be experimented at one department

LAHORE: The Punjab University will introduce a ‘Learning Management System’ in all its departments to replace the existing obsolete learning system with digitised learning for optimum results.

This was disclosed by PU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Zafar Mueen Nasir while presiding over a meeting with Information Technology Director Imran Qureshi and other IT experts at his office on Saturday.

He said a digital system must be set up in order to replace the obsolete mode of learning at the university. He added the proposed solution would be based on Moodle, a renowned open-source Learning Management System used widely across the world.

“This system will enable students to interact online with teachers during the whole academic programme,” Dr Zafar said. The system will enable teachers to schedule classes, mark attendance, assign quizzes, post assignments and presentations and manage examinations as well.

“In this way, teachers and students will be able to contact each other on 24/7 basis,” the VC said. Transparent assessment and course learning outcomes systems would be introduced through this system and it would be possible to determine how much course had been covered.

Dr Zafar added that faculty and students portals would also be developed, he said,

The system would initially be experimented at one department and later replicated in all departments if it proves successful. The VC said the system would result in delivery of quality education, which was the administration’s main objective and included in his policy guidelines already given to all heads of departments and deans.
