RAWALPINDI: Motorists in Rawalpindi were stuck in a major traffic jam on Thursday afternoon after a large number of students from Government Asghar Mall Degree College blocked Benazir Bhutto Road.

Students from the college were protesting against the murder of their fellow student Tauqir Abbasi on January 11.

Abbasi, a BA student at the college, had allegedly been shot dead by Faizan Jadoon outside the college on Wednesday after two groups of students clashed.

On Thursday, a large number of students from the college gathered on the Benazir Bhutto Road near Chandni Chowk and staged a protest against the murder and called for the swift arrest of the murderer.

As a result of the protest, the road was blocked.

Soon after students blocked the road, SP Rawal Division Malik Iqbal reached the spot and tried to placate the students, assuring them that the police would arrest the suspect soon. After keeping the road blocked for around 30 minutes, the students dispersed peacefully.

Zafar Reham, Abbasi’s father, had nominated Hafiz Usman Jadoon and Faizan for killing his son after they all had a scuffle.

In the FIR, Reham said that friends of the deceased college student had said that Usman had a fight with Abbassi.

After the fight, Usman called his relative Faizan. Faizan then allegedly shot Tauqir outside the college gate at around noon on Wednesday.
