LAHORE: The local administration tricked the newly elected mayor of Lahore into believing everything was fine at a Sunday Bazaar by covering up the sale of substandard and rotten commodities and overcharging that continued in the makeshift market unchecked.

Col (retd) Mubashir Javaid paid a ‘surprise visit’ to Shadman Sunday Bazaar along with town officials and security personnel to check prices and quality of essential commodities.

The town officials, who are well-trained in handling such surprise visits of ministers and other high-ranking officials had successfully ‘coordinated’ proper arrangements before the mayor’s visit.

Speaking to reporters, Mubashir said generally he found satisfactory arrangements at the weekly makeshift markets though there was always room for improvement.
