Unfortunate event: Two labourers killed as classroom roof caves in

Six labourers were demolishing the old school building when the roof of a classroom collapsed on them

FAISALABAD: Two labourers were killed while three others were seriously injured when the roof of a classroom caved in at the Government Girls High School Chak No 273 GB in Thekriwala on Saturday.

Police said six labourers were demolishing the old school building when the roof of a classroom collapsed on them and they were buried under debris. The rescue teams were called in immediately and after some hectic efforts, they rescued the workers. Two labourers identified as Nasir, 48, and Saleem, 35, died on the spot while Naeem, Liaquat, and Sunny were critically injured.

Muhammad Ismail, a watchman at the school told the police that a portion of the school was in a dilapidated condition which was being demolished by the labourers.

Taking notice of the incident, Faisalabad deputy commissioner ordered an inquiry into the accident and directed the assistant commissioner to deal with the contractor or any other person responsible for the tragic incident.
