Two Indus dolphins rescued

The mammal was rescued and later released in the Indus river near Katcho Bhindi

SUKKUR: Two stranded blind Indus dolphins were rescued from Ghotki and Kamber on Friday and Saturday, respectively, and released back into the River Indus.

According to World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF)- Pakistan, Sukkur, senior project officer Imran Malik, a team of WWF and wildlife department rescued a dolphin on Friday. The dolphin was spotted near Dahar Wah near Yaroo Lund in Ghotki.

The mammal was rescued and later released in the Indus river near Katcho Bhindi. The rescued dolphin was 3.1 feet long and weighed around 26 kilogrammes. Dahar Wah is one of the tributaries of Ghotki feeder, which off takes from the Guddu Barrage.

On Saturday, another dolphin was rescued from Warah canal in Kamber, said Malik. According to him, the mammal was 4.7 feet long and weighed around 37 kilogrammes.

The dolphin was also released in Indus river near the Larkana-Khairpur bridge. Indus dolphins often slip into the off taking canals in search of food, added Malik.
