Arrests: AVCC, CPLC bust kidnappers’ gang  

The gang was involved in short-term kidnappings for the last three years

KARACHI: Anti-Violent Crime Cell (AVCC), in collaboration with the Citizens-Police Liaison Committee (CPLC) claimed on Friday to have busted a gang of criminals involved in short-term kidnappings.

“The gang was involved in short-term kidnappings for the last three years, particularly in Saddar as well as Jinnah and Civil hospitals,” said Criminal Investigation Agency’s chief DIG Dr Jameel Ahmed during a press conference at his office. “The group used intoxicating substances to kidnap people belonging to rural Sindh and would later collect ransom money from their families [using wire transfers].”

Following a large number of complaints, DIG Ahmed formed a special police team headed by AVCC DSP Raja Amjad and the CPLC, and managed to arrest the gang from Garden area. The suspects have been identified as Khamiso Buksh, Hanif Gul, Majeed Ahmed, Khalid Khamiso and Javed Ali.
