The decision to promote these officials was taken during a meeting of the Departmental Selection Board (DSB) at CADD.
The promotions of officials in around seven departments, including at two major hospitals and the Federal Directorate of Education, were considered.
Most of the promotion cases were finalised, but some which were delayed due to incomplete or missing records will be taken up again by the Establishment Division.
In educational institutions, the promotion cases included assistant professors of ICT Colleges. The DSB considered seven men and 13 women (all assistant professors in BS-18) for vacant posts of associate professors in BS-19 at FG colleges.
The meeting was previously scheduled to be held on August 30, 2016. But since the promotion formulae had been challenged in court, the meeting could not be held.
After the resolution of the case, a meeting of the board was scheduled for December 15, 2016, but it was then deferred till January.
The meeting was welcomed by government teachers as it grants recognition to their services. Moreover, it will have a trickledown effect as it will open up slots for many lecturers to be promoted from BS-17 to BS 18.
Prof Muhammad Akram, ex-general secretary of the Federal Government College teachers Association (FGCTA), congratulated teachers whose cases had been considered for promotion.
The move comes two days after the CADD issued a notification announcing the transfer of two associate professors as principals of colleges in the capital. Naeema Parveen was transferred as the principal of Islamabad Model College for Girls F-8/1, while Iffat Amjad was named as the new principal of Islamabad Model College for Girls in Korang Town.
