Local govt: District council chairman, vice chairman take oath 

Punjab government’s promise of empowering the local bodies has been fulfilled

JHELUM: District Council Chairman Raja Qasim Ali and Vice Chairman Dr Bashir Chaudhry were sworn in at the District Council Hall on Sunday.

Returning Officer Fazal Mahmood administered them the oath of office.

Top officials of the civil administration and political leadership including DCO Iqbal Hussein, DPO Hasan Assad Alvi, MNAs Nawabzada Matloob Mehdi, Nighat Mir and Khadim Hussein were present at the ceremony.

After taking oath, Qasim said that he and his team would be working hard for resolving civic issues, adding that the local government would fulfill its mandate.

DCO Hussein said the civil administration and police would extend every possible assistance to the local government in resolving the civic issues. He said that the Punjab government’s promise of empowering the local bodies has been fulfilled.
