Two police personnel were injured as explosives went off near Shafi Town of Rahim Yar Khan on Friday afternoon, Express News reported.

Regional Police Office (RPO) Bahawalpur Muhammad Idrees said that a man clad in a burqa targeted DSP Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) Chaudhry Ashraf. The bomber was effectively neutralised at a safe distance, he added.

The injured personnel were rushed to Shaikh Zayed Hospital where condition of both of them was stated to be critical.

The assailant blew himself when a large number of people had gathered at the mosque to offer prayers.

Eyewitnesses also said that the incident took place when the personnel deputed for mosque security inquired a suspect apparently disguised as a beggar of his whereabouts.
