Dilapidated condition: Roof collapse claims lives of two children

Rescue officials said roof collapsed due to dilapidated condition of the house

RAJANPUR: At least two children were killed while five others were injured when roof of a house collapsed in Rajanpur on Thursday.

A police official said Munir Ahmad and his family were present in their house situated in Mohallah Sadaat when roof of the house caved in and they were trapped under the debris.

As a result, Munir Ahmad's six-year-old daughter Diya Bibi and eight-year-old son Tanvir Ahmad died on the spot while five family members, including Munir Ahmad sustained injuries.

DPO Irfan Ullah Murawat said on receiving information, the teams of Rescue 1122 and police reached the spot and recovered the injured and bodies from the debris. The injured were shifted to DHQ Hospital Rajanpur.APP

The rescue officials opined the roof collapsed due to the dilapidated condition of the house. However, further probe to ascertain the cause was under way.

Earlier in August, five people were killed and seven others were injured after the roof of a house collapsed on them in Dehli Gate, Lahore.

Jameel, a book-binder, had lived in a rented house near Masjid Wazir Khan. A large number of Jameel’s relatives had gathered in his house for his daughter’s marriage ceremony. When they went to sleep the roof of the upper storey caved in.

The deceased were identified as Tafseela, 40, Aqsa, 9, Dua, 35, Mehwish, 28, and Parveen. The injured were identified as three-month-old Haraam, one and half-year-old Ayan, Mah Noor, 3, Rehman, 4, Nabeela, 30, Jameel, 45.
