MUZAFFARGARH: A man was arrested for selling banned black polythene bags during a raid at Sanawan on Tuesday. This was said by District Officer Environment Syed Ashfaq Ahmad.

He said a legal action against the sellers and manufacturers of illegal polythene bags is continued in the district, adding 150 challans against sellers of banned polythene bags had already been submitted to Senior Civil Judge and Environment Magistrate so far.

On Tuesday, environment department Inspector Fayyaz Ahmed conducted a raid at Sanawan, arrested a seller and recovered 16 kilogrammes of bags from his possession. The challan against the suspect has also been submitted to the court of senior civil judge, said Asfhaq. He warned shopkeepers not to use for sale banned black polythene bags.

Action against illegal laboratories

Under Rules 2004 of Polythene Bags Ordinance 2002, sale, preparation and use of black polythene bags those having thickness below 15 Micron have been banned, he said.
