Newly-appointed Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) DG Lieutenant General Naveed Mukhtar called on Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Friday.

The ISI chief and the premier exchanged views on the nation's security situation during their first meeting since the former's appointment. The prime minister also felicitated Mukhtar on assuming charge.



Mukhtar has replaced Lt Gen Rizwan Akhtar, who has been appointed the president of Islamabad's National Defence University (NDU), the military’s media wing added.

Pakistan Army on December 11 announced a new set of top-level transfers, appointing the Karachi corps commander, among others, as the military’s new spymaster.

On the same day, posting and transfers of 10 lieutenant generals were ordered, including Bilal Akbar, Rizwan Akhtar and Asim Bajwa. The development came two weeks after Gen Qamar Bajwa took over as the nation's army chief.
